Lesotho - Semonkong

New Year 2015 - Adventure in Semonkong

Friend & fellow PCV, Tracy Rayburn, and I brought in the New Year in the best way possible - we traveled from Mohale's Hoek & Mafeteng to spend a few days in the high plains of Semonkong, Lesotho. We stayed at the Semonkong Lodge; known for the Maletsunyane Falls abseil (rappelling), horseback rides on the plateaus, and fishing the Maletsunyane River.

Though the lodge has plenty of large & lovely suites, Tracy & I stayed in a tiny bungalow priced just right for budget PCV travelers.

Day 1 - Horse Trek to the Falls
Passing rondavels & small herds of cattle & horses

Spectacular green wheat - grown only in the highlands

Tracy, my wild & wacky friend! I call her "Lucy" & I am her "Ethel"!!

Day - 2, Maletsunyane Abseil
Getting Tethered Up

I am dropping over the cliff, adjacent to the waterfall to
abseil (rappel) 670 feet (204 meters)!

Still high up - the waterfall is thundering but spray is limited.
The view of the valley floor are spectacular.

That's me admiring the falls & beginning to feel the waterfall's spray!

Now at the bottom, untethered, getting drenched,
& clamoring over slick rocks

 Masters of the Waterfall!
