Agra - Taj Mahal & the Red Fort

March 26, 2008

Mary-Anna and I are now in Jaipur - just south west of Delhi.  Yesterday we had a sunset dinner overlooking the fabulous Taj Mahal... Muslim clerics singing the call to evening prayers in the background from a dozen minarets.  Our visit to the Taj Mahal was in the am and was truly spectacular. We have seen really amazing architectural marvels in the form of forts and palaces - sand stone and marble.  Today another fantastical palace - dreamy carvings and beautiful painted walls.  Afterward we traveled to a bird sanctuary and spent a couple hours on a cycle rickshaw with our sweet guide who pointed out amazing birds, spotted deer, and antelope (the larges in Asia).

Tomorrow we visit the "pink city" of Jaipur.  Well - I will keep this short since the internet line is busy.  The food has been great, the people kind, the countryside spectacular and the cities totally wild with people, cars, rickshaws, tuk tuks...

Lot's of strong impressions - beautiful and shocking - but all India!!
